Historically, scale has been used to enhance the impact of an artwork on its audience. This project encourages viewers to question artists’ choices of scale and their effects on the viewer.

Textiles have traditionally been associated with feminine labour and craft, only entering the fine art sphere more prominently in contemporary times. Using tapestry crochet to display bold text at a billboard-like scale creates an intentional contrast between material and context. The phrase ‘Bigger Than Yours?’ references the ambition of artists to produce large-scale works and examines its associations with perceived masculinity, dominance, and hierarchy.
