Lillethun, a half-Thai, half-Norwegian artist, grew up watching her mother, a Thai woman, experience racism. Much of it wasn’t intentional but that unconscious bias can still be this overwhelming presence in any ethnic person’s lifeminority. This artwork takes her mother, Naruemon “Pat” Lillethun’s face and overlays it with Norwegian doily designs from Lillethun’s childhood, expressing to express the dampening effects this unintended racism has on a person and their identity.
